“I’m a 30-year employee of the railroad, and I had injured my back. And I thought I needed legal representation. So I looked up on the internet where I found Mr. Shapiro’s law firm. I contacted Mr. Shapiro, and we had met. And we went to the job site where we inspected the defective equipment that had caused my injury.

At that time, Mr. Shapiro did take pictures of the defective equipment and the work site. Also, I had taken Mr. Shapiro into the office to where I believe I had evidence where this defective equipment had been reported and my supervisor had not made repairs. And some pictures were taken of some emails that were sent back and forth in regards to this defective equipment.

After my doctor’s visits, I was informed that they thought I was ready to return back to work, but my back was still hurting me and I felt otherwise. Upon speaking with Mr. Shapiro, it was recommended that I get a second opinion from another physician, orthopedic.

And thereafter, it was determined that I had more damage to my back than what the first doctor had recognized. Once I went to Dr. Alcantara and he reviewed my MRIs, he noticed that I had a bulging disc or disc, and that was causing some of the pain as well as the muscle damage.

One of the things that between Mr. Shapiro and my doctor, Alcantara, had agreed upon is that I needed to have what’s called a functional capacity evaluation done, which I did. And in doing so, the result of that showed that I was unable to return back to work to perform the job duties for my job. When the company got word and notification of the results of the functional capacity evaluation, no offer was even made for a settlement.

And Mr. Shapiro had to go forth with the lawsuit to get this settled. Prior to the deposition with the railroad lawyer, Mr. Shapiro and myself sat down and we reviewed the process of the deposition that would be coming up and some questions that would more likely be asked or posed to me. I believe Mr. Shapiro did an excellent job getting me prepared for that deposition.

Upon the investigation of the case, Mr. Shapiro questioning witnesses, coworkers, company management, the legal team, it was agreed upon that we would go to mediation, and we never did come to an agreement through the mediation process right away.

And Mr. Shapiro had to work long and hard thereafter to try to come to an agreement which we finally did weeks thereafter. I believe that we have reached the best settlement possible under the circumstances. Mr. Shapiro and his staff did work with me very closely, preparing me for the settlement and all the associated paperwork thereof.

I would highly recommend to Mr. Shapiro and his staff and his office or any other railroad worker who has been injured on the job. He’s very competent, very knowledgeable, and he will work very hard for you.”
